Marvel’s upcoming WandaVision spin-off starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness finally has an official title—for real this time—and a release date on Disney+.

The Agatha series has been through several titles over the years, including Agatha: House of Harkness, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and Agatha: The Lying Witch with Great Wardrobe. It turns out those constant title changes were the result of the titular pesky witch, and the actual title was unveiled during Disney’s 2024 Upfront Presentation: Agatha All Along. The first two episodes of the series will debut on Disney+ on September 18th.

The fitting title takes its name from the viral ear-worm song featuring in WandaVision from composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Admit it, you’re humming it right now. There goes my evening. In addition to Kathryn Hahn as Agatha, the Marvel series also stars Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Emma Caulfield Ford, Maria Dizzia, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Debra Jo Rupp, and Okwui Okpokwasili.

While Agatha All Along will be the next Marvel series to be released on Disney+, the presentation also gave us an idea of when to expect some of the others, including Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart. The Daredevil series, which has experienced a fair share of delays owing to a significant creative overhaul, is expected to launch on Disney+ in March 2025. Fans have been excited to see the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, and the show also includes appearances from other members of the original Netflix series, including Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and more.

As for Ironheart, which features Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), Marvel didn’t announce a release date window for the series, only to confirm that it would also debut in 2025.

Yellowjackets fans will be eating good soon as season 3 will be on its way to your screens with production officially starting. The third year of our favorite schoolgirls was one of the victims of a great delay due to the dual union strikes in Hollywood last year. However, there would be a bonus episode in between the second and third season that would whet viewers’ appetites before the true continuation occurred.

The official Yellowjackets account on social media has just dropped an announcement that filming on season 3 has officially taken off. The announcement is followed by some teaser photos of the camp with one picture showcasing the script for the premiere episode. The post reads, “We know you’re starving… #Yellowjackets Season 3 is officially in production.” Which is then followed by a clapperboard emoji and a bee yellowjacket emoji. Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis star in Yellowjackets, which is is described as “equal parts survival epic, horror story, and coming-of-age drama.” The story centers on a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. The series will chronicle their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring, cannibalistic clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.

Created, written, executive produced by Lyle and Nickerson, the series also stars Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Ella Purnell, Sammi Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, Steven Krueger, Amy Okuda, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Courtney Eaton, and Liv Hewson. New cast additions in Yellowjackets season 2 included Elijah Wood (the Lord of the Rings trilogy), Lauren Ambrose (Servant), Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Nicole Maines (Supergirl), François Arnaud (The Borgias), Nia Sondaya (Truth Be Told), and guest star Jason Ritter (Freddy vs. Jason).

What Do We Know About the upcoming second season of The Last of Us? More than you may think. The hit HBO series became a new benchmark for video game adaptations with a faithful take on the source material and new material from the game creators. Now, season two is set to raise the bar yet again. So, let’s dive in and take a look at what is coming next from the hit video game adaptation’s sophomore run.

Same Showrunners with New Writers/Directors

The success of the first season of The Last of Us meant the return of showrunner Craig Mazin, best known for HBO’s acclaimed Chernobyl as well as writing the less-than-acclaimed The Hangover Part II and Part III as well as Scary Movie 3 and 4. Mazin worked on the second season alongside game creator Neil Druckmann and new writers Hailey Gross and Bo Shim. Druckmann, Mazin, and Peter Hoar will return as directors in the second season with new helmers Kate Herron, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Mark Mylod, and Stephen Williams.

The second season will pick up five years later

The first season of The Last of Us covered the entire first video game, stopping at the same point where Joel and Ellie depart the Colorado hospital. With Joel holding a massive lie about what happened at the facility, the pair leave with their destination unknown to viewers of the series but very well known to gamers. Many expected the second season to include new material to bridge the gap between the video games. Still, Druckmann and Mazin have since stated they did not want to add any filler material not in the games already, which means season two will begin five years after season one with Joel and Ellie living in Jackson, Wyoming.

Part II will go beyond Season 2

Since it was not a foregone conclusion that The Last of Us would even get a second season, Druckmann and Mazin wanted to ensure the series’ initial run was a full narrative arc for the characters. With season two, the showrunners plan to develop the story slowly, with the second video game providing material for multiple television seasons. New writer Hailey Gross cowrote Part II with Neil Druckmann, and her input will ensure that the series sticks close to the established storylines. Mazin has teased that The Last of Us could run for about four seasons, which means that Part II will be stretched to fit somewhere between two and three total seasons.

Who is joining the cast?

Season two is currently in production but was delayed due to the 2023 Writers Guild Strike and subsequent SAG-AFTRA strike, which occurred right when auditions occurred. The most important casting decision was Abby, a main character, with Kaitlyn Dever being selected for the role. Isabelle Merced, most recently seen in Madame Web, was chosen to play Dina. Other new characters include Jesse, played by Young Mazino (Netflix’s Beef), Mel played by Ariela Barer, Nora, played by Tati Gabrielle, and Owen played by Spencer Lord. Danny Ramirez will play Manny with Gabriel Luna returning as Joel’s brother, Tommy. The only cast member whose role has not been disclosed is Schitt’s Creek icon Catherine O’Hara, who may play a key guest role like Nick Offerman in the first season.

What is the story?

The Last of Us Part II has often been boiled down to being more of a showcase for Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey. The relationship between Ellie and Dina has been hailed as a masterful storyline in video games and is sure to be impressive in live-action as well. But Ramsey herself has said that the second season will explore the complexity of Ellie’s relationship with Joel, which could mean either expanded material added to existing scenes and subplots or may just be indicative of Ramsey’s desire to work with Pedro Pascal more. What we do know is that the video game takes the story in a much darker direction, if that is even possible. There is a theme of revenge and grief that pervades Part II.

How many episodes will Pedro Pascal appear in?

The celebrity of Pedro Pascal has skyrocketed in recent years, with the actor being front and center in The Last of Us while still providing his voice to the Disney+ Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. Pascal is also now the star of Marvel Studios’ long-anticipated movie The Fantastic Four, in which he will play the lead role of Reed Richards. Being stretched, pun intended, in so many directions and with the fate of Joel a foregone conclusion in The Last of Us Part II, the question is whether the writers will accelerate his departure from the main story or if he will meet his maker in Season Three or later.

When will we see it?

HBO’s only announcement has been that the series will premiere in 2025, which was announced at the end of 2023. Production was delayed due to the strikes, but filming is slated to wrap in August 2024. Post-production will take some time, which means we should not expect to see the second season until at least Summer next year.

That might be what she said but he’s got a different story altogether. Steve Carell says he has no intention of turning up on the upcoming follow-up to The Office and has stored away his World’s Best Boss mug for good.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Carell said that even though this Office series is set within the same universe, his time as Michael Scott is over. “I will be watching but I will not be showing up. It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character [Michael Scott] to show up in something like that.” That said, he still has faith in the project, adding, “But I’m excited about it, it sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea — I guess it’s set in a failing newspaper company.”

Steve Carell has played coy about a previous return as Michael Scott before, insisting that he would not be reprising the Dundie Award-winning character for the series finale. But as we all figured — and had confirmed — he did make a “surprise” appearance for Dwight’s wedding. Overall, though, even though this Office addition will have a similar style and will most likely feature some of the other characters reprising their roles, if Greg Daniels and company want it to stand on its own, it might best never even consider bringing back Steve Carell, lest it remind viewers of just how funny the original show was (well, until he left…).

Here is the official plot of the upcoming Office series: “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”

There have been a handful of mini Office reunions since the show went off the air in 2013, including Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer’s rewatch podcast. Steve Carell got his own when he was directed by John Krasinski for this month’s IF. On this project – in which Carell voices an old imaginary friend – Carell praised Krasinski’s directing, which he got experience with the season six episode of The Office “Sabre.”

Production on The Office follow-up is expected to begin this summer.

Amazon’s first foray into the upfront events has seen a lot of announcements this morning. Earlier, it was announced that Nicolas Cage will be reprising his Spider-Man Noir character for the live-action show Noir. Then, one of Amazon’s biggest shows, The Boys, would get a surprising early fifth-season renewal. It was also reported that the hit show with Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, will be getting a second season, only without Donald Glover and Maya Erskine.

Deadline now reports that another announcement has been made for a future project with the streamer. Amazon issued a series order for a new TV adaptation of the popular Tomb Raider video game. Jen Salke, Head of Amazon & MGM Studios, has teased that it will be an “epic” and “globe-trotting” series. The show has been developed and will be written by Fleabag and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Waller-Bridge would giddily state, “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”

Despite the announcement, there has not been anything said in terms of casting. “God, it literally felt like that teenager in me saying: do right by her, do right by Lara!” Phoebe Waller-Bridge said when Amazon approached her about the Tomb Raider series. “The opportunity to have, as we were talking earlier, a female action character…. Having worked on Bond and having worked as an actor on Indy, I feel like I’ve been building up to this. What if I could take the reins on an action franchise, with everything I’ve learned, with a character I adore, and also just bring back some of that ’90s vibe? And it’s such a wonderful feeling to think you know what to do.“

Waller-Bridge added that she has the opportunity to “do something dangerous and exciting” with the Tomb Raider series. “I already have an audience of people who love Lara and hopefully will continue to,” Waller-Bridge said. “And that is a very unusual position to be in. It’s the old Trojan horse.” Amazon seems intent on building its very own Tomb Raider universe. In addition to the TV series, there have also been rumblings that the streaming service is developing a new Tomb Raider movie as well.

Fresh off the news that Warner Bros is re-teaming with Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis for their Gollum spin-off, comes Prime Video’s announcement of the return of their own ambitious Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power. The new trailer teases the return of Charlie Vickers’s Sauron, sporting a new look, with the season making its debut on August 29th.

Despite being the most ambitious series in Prime Video’s history, it’s worth noting that the first season got a rather middling reception from fans. Whether or not the show was seen as a success for Prime ended up being a matter of perspective, with the streamer boasting that it had the streamer’s biggest premiere ever. However, a report in the Hollywood Reporter revealed that the series was only finished by 37% of it’s initial U.S viewers, which is a troubling statistic. Truth be told, I was one of those viewers who abandoned the show early on, as despite the lavish production values, it simply could not hold my attention.

Nevertheless, the streamer has ploughed forward with season two, with the series seeming to embrace a more story-driven, darker tone as opposed to the world-building (overkill, in my opinion) of the first season. We’ll see if this brings people around, but I have my doubts. The fact is, people view Peter Jackson as the ultimate architect of the saga on the big screen, even if the Tolkien estate doesn’t appreciate him (they made sure he had nothing to do with the series). With WB green-lighting more Lord of the Rings movies, it can’t be denied that some may decide to wait for the next LOTR movie and ignore The Rings of Power altogether. However, I could be wrong, as it’s possible the second season will win people over in a way the first simply couldn’t. Amazon’s adaptation of Mr. & Mrs. Smith put a twist on the original Doug Liman film and the show, which premiered earlier this year, would become one of Prime Video’s top five new series debuts ever in terms of total U.S. viewers. The series would get the greenlight for a second season at Prime Video; however, Variety is reporting that the first season’s stars, Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, are not expected to return. Amazon would decline to comment on the matter and reps for both actors have not immediately responded to the news.

Despite the news of the two leads sitting out the next season, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, has still shown her enthusiasm for the future of the series, “We are excited to announce that a second season of our groundbreaking spy series, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, is in the works for our global Prime Video customers. The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, sexy reinvention of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesa Sloane. We are proud to bring you another season filled with unforgettable journeys and new adventures.”

It is being said that the ending of the first season perhaps led to the show leaning into becoming more of an anthology series with different spy couples taking up the identities of John and Jane Smith every season. Glover and Erskine’s characters would be the inaugural couple and this upcoming season would see different actors partake in a similar undercover assignment with some romantic complications. This announcement was a part of Amazon’s first-ever upfront event, which also announced an early renewal of another hit streaming title, The Boys.

While the title implies that the show is a reboot of the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the show’s plot would not exactly rehash the movie’s. In the official synopsis for season one, “Two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith.
Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for
each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?”

Amazon’s dark superhero satire The Boys has become one of Prime Video’s biggest hits. The much-anticipated fourth season is due to drop on the streamer on June 13, but you don’t have to wait for Amazon to see the numbers to decide if they will bring the show back. Spoiler alert: they will. The Hollywood Reporter has just unveiled that The Boys, which stars Karl Urban, Anthony Starr, Jack Quaid and Erin Moriarty, has already been renewed for season 5 on Prime Video. This announcement was made as a part of Amazon’s first upfront, which is an event that previews upcoming schedule announcements while show rights acquisitions are made.

The head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, Vernon Sanders, would state, “The Boys is an unabashed and bold series that continues captivating our customers all over the world by piercing the cultural fabric season after season. We are proud of this series that has grown into a global franchise, and we are thrilled that [showrunner] Eric Kripke and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell for all the loyal fans.” And Kripke added, “The Boys could be the best job I’ll ever have. What other show allows me to write about politics, capitalism, family, and exploding genitalia, though not in that order. The cast and crew are deeply grateful to Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity to tell this story for another season. My only problem is that since this year promises to be free of any conflict or misinformation, we’re not sure what to write about.”

Sony Pictures TV president Katherine Pope would also express her enthusiasm over this announcement, “Since its premiere, devoted fans across the globe have been down with The Boys for this unapologetically wild ride. We couldn’t be more proud of our producers, writers, cast, and crew who bring this genius insanity to life. Now, with a fifth chapter to their story, we can’t wait to see where Eric Kripke and The Boys go next.”

Season four of The Boys will see a crossover with the spin-off Gen V. The synopsis for the upcoming season reads, “The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and the rest of The Boys are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”

One of the Spider-Man variations that stole scenes in the 2018 animated film from Sony, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, was Spider-Man Noir. The character had the impeccable pipes of Nicolas Cage to bring his character to life and, Deadline now reports that the Marvel comic property has just been given a greenlight by Prime Video and MGM+ for a live-action series, complete with Cage in the role. The series titled Noir has been in development for over a year from Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher, Shantaram), who will be serving as co-showrunners and executive producers.

It’s also reported that Harry Bradbeer, the Emmy-winning director of Fleabag and Killing Eve, is set to direct and executive produce the first two episodes. The show was also developed with the Academy Award-winning team who wrote and produced Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, who will all also serve on the series as executive producers. The live-action series is set to initially stream through MGM+’s linear channel, then will be available globally on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.

The synopsis, per Deadline, reads,
“Noir tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

Vernon Sanders, the head of television at Amazon MGM Studios says, “Expanding the Marvel universe with Noir is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers. The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”

And Katherine Pope, the President Sony Pictures Television Studios, adds, “We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character. Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”

With the release of MaXXXine less than two months away, Ti West is setting up his next project, which sounds like another helping of pure ’80s sleaze. According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Zac Efron is reportedly in talks to star in Night Business, a series adaptation of the cult graphic novel by Benjamin Marra, which Ti West will direct.

A24 will produce the Night Business series with Nathaniel Halpern (Legion) writing the script and serving as showrunner. Here’s the logline: “In this 1980s-trash-culture homage where a knife-wielding killer is on the loose, committing extreme acts of violence on exotic dancers. Only one man has a will powerful enough to stop this psychopath: Johnny Timothy. But can Johnny mete out his vengeance before more innocent victims have to die? A nasty brew of power, passion, vigilantes, and dangerous men raining street justice down upon their enemies.” Zac Efron would play Johnny Timothy, the man with two first names.

Night Business sounds like it could be a wild ride, and a team-up between Ti West and Zac Efron has a lot of potential. I’ve always been a fan of West, but Efron has really been stretching his acting muscles lately, particularly with his outstanding performance in The Iron Claw.

As for MaXXXine, the latest installment of the X franchise takes place in 1980s Hollywood, where adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx (Mia Goth) finally gets her big break. But as a mystery killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.

There have been rumblings that the sequel is a “good old whodunit slasher,” but Goth has teased that she views MaXXXine as more of a superhero movie. “That’s how I read the script,” Goth said. “Maxine, as a character, has come a long way. She’s a survivor, she’s gone through a lot. When we meet her again, in this new world that she’s in, she’s really fought for everything that she has, and she’s not about to give that up. She’s going to fight for what she has. She’s a badass. There’s a strength to her. And she’s a really proactive, determined, focused woman. She goes after what she wants, and she’s not really going to take no for an answer.” MaXXXine will hit theaters on July 5th, and it’s possible the franchise could continue should the film prove to be a success.
