Marvel’s upcoming WandaVision spin-off starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness finally has an official title—for real this time—and a release date on Disney+.

The Agatha series has been through several titles over the years, including Agatha: House of Harkness, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and Agatha: The Lying Witch with Great Wardrobe. It turns out those constant title changes were the result of the titular pesky witch, and the actual title was unveiled during Disney’s 2024 Upfront Presentation: Agatha All Along. The first two episodes of the series will debut on Disney+ on September 18th.

The fitting title takes its name from the viral ear-worm song featuring in WandaVision from composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Admit it, you’re humming it right now. There goes my evening. In addition to Kathryn Hahn as Agatha, the Marvel series also stars Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Emma Caulfield Ford, Maria Dizzia, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Debra Jo Rupp, and Okwui Okpokwasili.

While Agatha All Along will be the next Marvel series to be released on Disney+, the presentation also gave us an idea of when to expect some of the others, including Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart. The Daredevil series, which has experienced a fair share of delays owing to a significant creative overhaul, is expected to launch on Disney+ in March 2025. Fans have been excited to see the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, and the show also includes appearances from other members of the original Netflix series, including Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and more.

As for Ironheart, which features Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), Marvel didn’t announce a release date window for the series, only to confirm that it would also debut in 2025.

The first Marvel / Disney+ series WandaVision is getting a collector’s edition Blu-ray release tomorrow (you can order a copy HERE) – and apparently a featurette that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the spin-off / follow-up Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (which was formerly known as Agatha: House of Harkness and then Agatha: Coven of Chaos) is included in the extras! Agatha isn’t expected to start streaming on the Disney+ service until the early fall of 2024 – possibly on September 19, 2024 – so this featurette gets the marketing started quite early.

It looks like Loki season 2 will be the final live-action Marvel series released this year as THR has reported that the release dates of Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Echo, and more have been pushed back. These delays were rumoured earlier this year, so they don’t exactly come as a big surprise.

Loki season 2 is still on track to debut on Disney+ on October 6th. It will be followed by the second season of the animated series What If…?, which is expected to drop around Christmas Day. Echo, the Hawkeye spin-off series starring Alaqua Cox as the title character, was originally slated to debut all eight episodes on November 29th, but has now been pushed to January 2024. Next up is X-Men ’97, thje animated continuation of the classic 1990s series. The series was expected to premiere this fall, but has been pushed to early 2024. A second season is also in the works.

The biggest release date push is reserved for Agatha: Coven of Chaos, which has actually been retitled Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Production on the series had been completed before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. The WandaVision spin-off was originally announced for a winter 2023 release, but has now been pushed back to early fall 2024. That’s quite the delay.

Ironheart, a series focusing on Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), had also finished shooting but still has work to do that isn’t possible until the strikes conclude. The series has now been removed from Marvel’s schedule with no indication of when it will drop. Daredevil: Born Again and Wonder Man were both in the middle of production when they were paused by the strikes, and it’s no longer clear when they will land either.

It’s no secret that fans haven’t been as kind to Marvel’s recent movies and TV shows as they have in the past, and while part of the reason for these delays does come down to the ongoing strikes, Marvel Studios also wants to spread out its content a little more in an effort to improve each title and make them an event for fans.

Double double toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble, Patti LuPone (Beau Is Afraid, American Horror Story) is conjuring secrets about Marvel’s WandaVision spinoff, Agatha: Coven of Chaos. I know that didn’t rhyme. You’ll get over it, I promise. On Tuesday’s episode of The View (via Entertainment Weekly), LuPone revealed she’s playing Lilia Calderu for the upcoming series, also starring Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza.

“It’s a coven of witches, and I play Lilia Calderu, who apparently is in the Marvel world. I researched her. She’s hot. She’s really hot. She’s got a great body and hair,” LuPone told Alyssa Farah Griffin about her character. “I didn’t know there were witches,” LuPone said about exploring the Marvel Universe. “I didn’t know anything about the Marvel world. There are witches in the marvel world. So, we are a coven of witches and the witches are: Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza, and [a] Familiar – if anybody knows Heartstopper – is Joe Locke.”

While researching her bewitching character, LuPone discovered Calderu debuted in 1973. She’s “a 450-year-old Sicilian witch whose power is divination and whose trial is tarot,” she said.

While digging for dirt on the new series, co-host Ana Navarro asked if LuPone knows when the show will debut on Disney+. LuPone says the series is still in production, though she thinks it will launch sometime in 2024.

Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, Debra Jo Rupp, and possibly Emma Caufield also star in Agatha: Coven of Chaos. In the span of just two years, Marvel Studios released seven movies, eight TV series, and two specials comprising Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That’s certainly a lot of projects released in a short time, but they might pump the brakes a bit moving forward. According to a report by THR, Marvels Studios may push back the release of several projects to 2024, including the upcoming Disney+ series, Echo, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Ironheart, and more.

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige laid out plans at last year’s Comic-Con to release five new shows on Disney+ in 2023, including Secret Invasion, Loki season 2, Ironheart, Echo, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and What If…? season 2. THR’s report states that only Secret Invasion and the second season of Loki are “sure bets to debut this year,” with the remaining projects “unlikely” to arrive in 2023. As Echo and Ironheart wrapped shooting last year, that would be quite the delay. Other Marvel shows which are currently in development for Disney+, such as Nova, may also slow down.

Kevin Feige alluded to this change while speaking with Entertainment Weekly earlier this week, saying, “The pace at which we’re putting out the Disney+ shows will change.” Disney CEO Bob Iger also recently commented that they need to be “better at curating” content that’s “extraordinarily expensive.” A company insider told THR that “There is going to be a level of rigor on Marvel and across the entire company. Numbers matter now, and costs are going to be outlined and enforced.” Pumping out endless amounts of content may be fine if you just want to give people something to watch, but that method obviously can’t last with these expensive types of shows. Just take your time, perfect it, and audiences will be grateful they have higher quality shows, even if they may be fewer in number. It remains to be seen if we really will have to wait until 2024 for the majority of these Marvel shows, but I suppose we’ll find out before too long.

Debra Jo Rupp will be heading back to Westview. Deadline has reported that Debra Jo Rupp has joined the cast of Agatha: Coven of Chaos, the upcoming WandaVision spinoff series set to star Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness.

The actress played Mrs. Hart/Sharon Davis in WandaVision, and it’s expected that she will be playing the same role in Agatha: Coven of Chaos. In addition to Kathryn Hahn and Debra Jo Rupp, the cast of Agatha: Coven of Chaos includes Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, and Patti LuPone. Debra Jo Rupp won’t be the only WandaVision alum to return for Agatha: Coven of Chaos, as it’s also expected that Emma Caulfield Ford will be reprising the role of Dottie.

Mrs. Hart isn’t the only role that Debra Jo Rupp will be reprising, as she’s also returning as Kitty Forman in That ’90s Show, Netflix’s upcoming spinoff of That ’70s Show. “Hello, Wisconsin!” reads the official synopsis. “It’s 1995 and Leia Forman, daughter of Eric and Donna, is visiting her grandparents for the summer where she bonds with a new generation of Point Place kids under the watchful eye of Kitty and the stern glare of Red. Sex, drugs and rock ’n roll never dies, it just changes clothes.” The series will also feature the return of Kurtwood Smith as Red Forman, who is still surrounded by dumbasses. Almost all of the other original cast members will return as guest stars for the series, including Topher Grace as Eric, Laura Prepon as Donna, Mila Kunis as Jackie, Ashton Kutcher as Michael, Wilmer Valderrama as Fez, Tommy Chong as Leo, and Don Stark as Bob. That ’90s Show will debut on Netflix on January 19th.

The Netflix movie revolved around two friends who are sent to the titular school but find their fortunes seemingly reversed and their friendship put to the test. LuPone will also be seen starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Ari Aster’s Beau is Afraid, which is set to be released next year. The film is said to center on an anxious man who is travelling home upon learning of the death of his mother under mysterious circumstances. During the journey, he makes an alarming discovery about his past and runs into various supernatural threats.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo, the cast of Marvel’s Agatha: Coven of Chaos, has grown by two! The highly-anticipated WandaVision spinoff series will conjure Ali Ahn (Anya, Supernatural, Little Demon) and Maria Dizzia (True Story, Martha Marcy May Marlene) for the Disney+ presentation starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness.

The news that Ahn and Dizzia are joining the series comes hot off the umbra-black heels of Aubrey Plaza (Legion, Child’s Play, Emily the Criminal) and Joe Locke (Heartstopper) signing onto the spinoff, with Plaza believed to be playing a villain. Morgan Le Fay, anyone? Enchantress? Eh? Ahn and Dizzia’s roles are being kept under wraps, though with Marvel tapping into Marvel‘s magical side, they could be anyone.

Kathryn Hahn reprises her WandaVision role of Agatha Harkness for Agatha: Coven of Chaos, with Emma Caufield again playing WandaVision’s Dottie too. Who Locke will play remains a mystery, though Marvel fans speculate Locke will star as an aged-up version of Wanda and Vision’s son, Billy, also known as Wiccan. While this remains unconfirmed, introducing Wiccan would tie Agatha: Coven of Chaos to the events of WandaVision and introduce another critical member of the Young Avengers. Marvel has yet to announce plans for a Young Avengers film or series. However, they’ve slowly been introducing team members like Kate Bishop (Hawkeye), Cassie Lang (Stature), Elijah “Eli” Bradley (Patriot), Tommy (Speed), and America Chavez. I see what you’re doing, Marvel, and I like it. 

I’ll also float Nicholas Scratch as a potential role for Locke. Scratch is Agatha Harkness’ son, who becomes the leader of New Salem, a reclusive community of magic users who abduct Agatha in an attempt to put her to death.

Jac Schaeffer serves as the writer and executive producer of Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The spinoff series hopes to cast a spell over audiences exclusively on Disney+ next year.

As is typical with Marvel news, it’s not known who Aubrey Plaza will play in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, but it’s exciting to have her onboard nonetheless. This isn’t the only Agatha: Coven of Chaos casting news we’ve had recently, as it was announced just yesterday that Heartstopper star Joe Locke had signed on. As with Plaza, it’s not clear who Locke will be playing in the Marvel series.
